If you are worried about keeping your child or young person safe … for example if your child is expressing that they cannot stop thinking about suicide and has imminent plans to hurt themselves, seek professional help straight away. Don’t leave your child alone: make sure that there is someone with your child, whether it is you or a close friend or family member and call for professional help.

It is also important to get support for yourself during this time of crisis. If you have contacted professional help, then consider calling a close family member or friend to support you as you get help for your child.

You could also call:
• NHS Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) - If you are a parent and you have concerns about your child’s mental health, please contact Tel: 0208 315 4430, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. The CAMHS Crisis Line’s key interventions are:

♦ Risk assessment to ensure any advice or guidance given is appropriate and robust
♦ Help the child or young person engage in any safety plan they have formulated with their community teams
♦ Advice to parents and carers in relation to their child or young person, including reminding them of any plans put in place by CAMHS teams
♦ Support and advice for mental health professionals regarding children and young people they have been called to attend/support out-of-hours
