Bromley Y, The Charity

Bromley Y hosts the services below, but the Charity arm provides longer term interventions that sit outside of contracted services. These longer-term interventions include our volunteer mentoring in schools at any age and in the community for young people aged 14 to 18 years as well as our ACTIVATE social prescribing programme for young people aged 16-17.

Fundraising is an essential part of the Charity work to support these functions.

Integrated Single Point of Access (iSPA)

Bromley Y and Bromley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) provide the Integrated Single Point of Access for all children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing services in Bromley.
This service is hosted by Bromley Y.

The iSPA provides a shared, integrated referral system with joint triaging and pathway decision making.

Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service (MHEWS)

Bromley Y was awarded the tender in 2021 to provide the Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service (MHEWs) which reaches out into the community offering advice, signposting, group work as well short-term, low to medium level interventions to children, young people and parents/carers. We work in a systemic way, collaborating with other services to ensure that the young person’s needs are kept at the centre of our pathway planning.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHST)

Bromley Y provides the Mental Health Support Teams in 63 Bromley schools, working with school Mental Health Leads and other professionals to promote a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

The MHST service provides a range of psycho-education interventions, live webinars, targeted group work, guided self-help and advice, offering consultations with parents/carers and school professionals to support young people.

Bromley Y Charity & Project Work includes:

Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC)

EPEC is a new initiative for Bromley Y, which is supported by the NHS and ‘The Centre for Parent and Child Support’. Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) is a volunteer-led, evidence-based parenting programme. Building on their existing skills we train parents to become Parent Group Leaders (PGLs) who deliver EPEC groups to other parents.

Mentoring

Our mentoring scheme supports young people from 14 to 18 years of age who may benefit from longer term support, beyond therapy. It involves being matched with an adult volunteer to have regular meetings in the community for a period of up to 6 months. Mentoring meetings typically involve things like enjoying a walk outdoors, getting a hot drink or food together, or an activity i.e. bowling/table tennis. We aim to match young people with a mentor who has similar interests, where possible.

Recovery & Resilience Programme:

Aimed at young people with multiple needs, who may have had previous interventions but with unresolved emotional difficulties or, who do not reach the threshold levels for specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

A tailored formulation is offered, which might include a combination of intervention, parent/carer peer support, care co-ordination, working with the young person’s care network and mentoring/social support.

ACTIVATE - Social Prescribing

ACTIVATE is Bromley Y’s social prescribing programme for young people aged 16-17. We understand that this stage of life can be a significant transition period, and for some young people it may bring feelings of worry, low mood, low motivation or loneliness. ACTIVATE provides flexible, one-to-one support to help young people manage these challenges and focus on their individual needs and goals.  Read more about social prescribing and our ACTIVATE news.
