Creative Approaches to Emotional Wellbeing work with children aged between 6-10 years.
On Wednesday this week, several members of the Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing Service team attended internal training focused on using creative approaches when working with children aged 6–10.
Led by colleagues who specialise in creative therapeutic models, the session explored how tools such as imagery, storytelling, and play can be integrated alongside our existing modalities. These approaches can help young people engage in their therapeutic journey in ways that feel safer and more natural than traditional talking-based methods.
We also reflected on ways to support parents, drawing on ideas from leading practitioners in the field, and spent time learning relational, play-based activities inspired by Theraplay and AutPlay – including a hands-on (and great fun!) “Pizza Massage.”
It was a day full of learning, creativity, and connection. Our team is excited to begin incorporating these techniques into sessions to better support the children and families we work with.
